I went to Japan at the end of last year and all this is so true! Reading this makes me miss Japan even more, I really do want to go back to live.
Anyway, my question is, where is that photo taken? The one with the temple above the water. It is incredibly picturesque and stunning!

I’ve found each one of these points applies equally well to Chinese culture, with minor adjustments. Chinese might not be able to compete with Japanese politeness, for example, but if one follows their rules of civil behavior, they are delighted. They don’t always seem to expect politeness from foreigners, sadly.
